ALMA ON DOBBIN is a New York City-based not-for-profit organization
dedicated to the promotion and development of arts and culture
between East-Central Europe and the American art world. Through
exchange programs, joint exhibitions, residencies and educational
outreach, ALMA ON DOBBIN aims to encourage creative thinking
and art-making, audience development and to educate the public
about the diversity of artistic traditions of East-Central Europe,
and its relationship with the US. We also aim to serve as a
conduit to connect artists, audiences and communities, and to
encourage the growth of Central European arts philanthropy.
We believe that the mutual and in-depth representation of art
and culture created in the US and countries of East-Central
Europe will serve to build new audiences and improve understanding
among people, institutions and communities.
ALMA ON DOBBIN was founded in 2003 by artist Andršs B¶r¶cz, art historian Ægnes Berecz and sociologist Andršs Szšnt‹ in Williamsburg, a New York neigborhood known for its ethnic and cultural diversity, as well as for its welcoming and challenging creative environment. In the vicinity of many contemporary art galleries and project spaces, ALMA ON DOBBIN is located in a former 19th century horse stable, now transformed into a residential building and artists' studios.
